Traditional vs. Electric Guitar Sermon

I wanted to see if I was the only Mormon mother out there with a web blog and guess what I found….. I think I am…. but I’m hot on the search and will report back here if I find any. If you know of any let me know.

Chuck has left for the week to work at a trade show in New York. I’m sad that he’s gone but I’m enjoying the anticipation of his return. The excitement of what I’m going to wear at the airport, how cute the kids will be when they run towards their Dad with outstretched arms. Throwing myself around his neck and kissing him. It’s a fun week of imagining his return. I only hope the eventual outcome is everything I’m expecting.

I went to a Nazarene church today, as well as my usual ward. The students that we lived with for several months, are back for school. I figured that since Chuck was gone I might as well go see them at their church. They’d invited us to go several times but we’ve been busy with callings and responsibilities at church. We’re moving at the end of this month and don’t have any callings in our ward now so with Chuck gone to New York, I thought it a good way to keep my mind off his absence. It was an interesting meeting. It was really nice being able to see the students, Megan, Kelly and Clayton, Monica and Christy, Michelle, Lorna, Trent, the Kirby brothers, Steven, Stephanie, Shiloh and Justin, Catherine and Lizette. There were a lot of people to say hello to. As for the meeting, it was very different from what I’m use to. It was like a Gospel Principles class. The sermon was very basic and always good to hear but I really enjoyed going back to my ward afterward to enjoy gospel doctrine. I enjoy the interactive learning on a spiritual level and all the things I learn. The sermon was a good reminder but I didn’t feel like I really learned anything new. The music was a lot of fun though. Drums, keyboard, guitar, with everyones voices echoing off the gymnasium walls. It was moving!

I went out with Nichole and Belinda, two of my sisters-in-law, Friday night to see Charlie’s Angels 2 and had cheesecake afterward at Cheesecake Cafe. Why is it that women can’t do anything together without food involved? We can’t divulge the juicy details of a hot date without ice cream. We can’t enjoy a good movie without pizza or popcorn. We can’t get married without feeding the entire community. Okay, I guess that last one is kind of needed, but the rest of the time! What is it with our society’s obsession with food? Huge billboards along the highway advertising the greasiest burgers airbrushed to appear loaded with vegetables that alone are healthy but the hunk of beef and cheese eliminate any ideas of losing weight eating it. Why don’t we ever see billboards along the highway advertising the organic market at our next right or the pick-your-own celery farm to our left? Maybe I’m missing the mark, maybe I’m wrong and it’s my obsession rather than society’s.
Interesting.

I better cut this short. My friends are here with games and junk food. Gotta go!
