I haven’t said anything until now because I don’t want to put too much pressure on the whole potty training experience but my son has been sans diapers during the day for three days now.
Don’t let that statement fool you into thinking that there have been no accidents because there have been a few although he’s been surprisingly good about using the potty.
David just came downstairs, looking quite pleased with himself, holding a messy diaper wipe. I’m sure you can guess that when I say messy I mean covered in poop. He tells me that he pooped in the potty and I automatically jump into praising him. I pick him up, take him to the bathroom sink, sit him on my bent leg and wash his hands.
Can you see what’s coming or are you slow like I was. If I was a quick thinker I never would have sat him on my leg. I never would have forgotten that a toddler is not very good at making sure that all the mess, as we are calling it, is clean and safely flushed down the toilet.
I set him on the floor and immediately notice a two foot long strip of brown pudding warming my upper leg.
What do you say? What do you do first? Clean the boy, who is so obviously needing to be washed, or my pants which may never get worn again?
I chose to wash the boy before he spread his mess all over the house. He is now in the bath after having a shower and my pants are in the washer.
The next person to say that motherhood is beautiful gets hosed down by my ever ready son.
Hey, I guess you are now the poop magnet I’ll remind you of my first baby mess/Sunday adventure by the way it was you, ya little stinker.
