The setting is in my van while on the way to church. I am putting on my make up, turning a corner and thanking the children for having put on their seat belts without being asked. They were probably worried their mother would run into a tree while applying eye liner.
Jason: I’m going to try really hard to be good all day. All day, Mom! And if I can be good all day I’m going to try to be especially good for a while week! Maybe I’ll keep going after that.
Jocelyn: Yeah Mom, I’m going to try really hard too. You’re going to be so proud of us!
Mom, that’s me: That’s awesome guys! I think that is so great that I’m going to try really hard to be good too.
Jocelyn: Wow, Mom. That means not losing your temper or yelling. That’s going to be really hard for you.
Great. Just great.
Ha! I laugh only because my daughter likes to point out my “short-comings” as well. I keep telling her they’re not short-comings, they defense mechanisms. I’m gonna be in trouble when she starts throwing that back at me…
I can relate to this when my boys where young.
