My weekend in fast forward

It was almost our last weekend before school starts and we took full advantage of every minute. We had a lot of fun but I could have used some down time.

We started our weekend by taking Chuck’s family up the Grassi Lakes trail on Thursday. Last time we did this trail we had to rush home to get Jason into his dental appointment so the dentist could start fixing his busted teeth. This time Chuck and I wanted to take our time and enjoy the views, the lakes, the petroglyphs and the mountain climbers.

I loved being on the trail and watching how comfortable my kids were with being in the mountains. They could keep everyone on the path even when the trail got confusing. They explained that we need to stay in a group and be pretty loud to scare off the bears.

We took advantage of the landscape by taking a bunch of pictures of all the cousins together.

We spent the day running around the lake although we didn’t get into the water. It was glacier water, much too cold for playing.

Here is a picture of one of the petroglyphs.

The rest of the weekend went by like a blur between a wedding, a baptism, friends visiting and I spoke in church. It was so relieving to see Monday approaching!

Now that our crazy weekend is over I am reading two books that are very interesting and they are helping me get ready for school starting. The Intentional Family and Help for the Harried Homeschooler. The first one is a great study of how to keep family rituals and why they are important. The second is a great book for placing priorities on everything I need to do. So far they are both great books.

I ordered some of my school books last night, nothing like leaving it to the last possible second. I can’t wait for the mailman to bring me my package. I bought the second Story of the World books with the audio CD so the kids can listen to it if they want. I discovered last year that the kids LOVE audio books. I also bought Writing with Ease and the first and second workbooks to go along with it. I’ve become such a huge fan of Susan Wise Bauer. I only wish she had created a simple way to teach math!

What are you doing to get ready for school?
