Thanks for the blog love!

I've been sewing since high school. I was raised with 2 grandmothers who sewed and a mother who sewed. My sister is the only one who doesn't do crafty stuff, she's our general hostess which I didn't inherit from one of my grandmothers.

For Jocelyn, you could make a tote bag for her to carry items when on the go or library book bag. What you picked up is called a "fat quarter" of material. I believe if you go on flickr there are groups that took a "fat quarter" challenge, this way you'll get some ideas as to what to make with it.

First projects let's see: my mil and sister love it when I make them patchwork coasters...great small project to learn about quilting, tote bags, zippered pouches, bean bags for games, I Spy pouches, aprons, lounge pants (I've been making my girls pj bottoms from vintage pillowcases, super simple), etc...

I have a HUGE fabric stash, it starts pretty fast with a fabric love. If you ever want some fabric pieces just let me know! :0)

AHHH! Stay away from the quilt store until you need that one special fabric that you just can't find anywhere else! I'm not sure what's available in Cochrane but I usually try Fanny's Fabrics and the fabric department at Walmart. There are patterns that include "easy" in the title or find some cheap ugly fabric and design your own patterns through trial and error! You could also pick up some sewing/quilting/crafty books from the library.
