Yesterday was a hot day but it wasn’t as much of a scorcher as the last couple days so we took the kids to Kinsmen Beach. Drive staright through town and keep to the left and you’ll drive into the parking lot for the beach. There’s a sandbox, a large play gym, a consession stand and plenty of trees for shade that aren’t too far from the water line. Everyone was very excited about playing in the water and going swimming but as soon as David saw the giant sandbox he was smitten. I forced him to get into the lake once but he didn’t stay in for long.
Jason and Jocelyn found some other kids their ages who were making a sand castle. I thought it was pretty funny that the boys planned out what the castle was going to look like but they sent Jocelyn off to get all the buckets of water. The boys only made it a quarter of the way through construction before they lost interest and ran off to squirt each other with water guns. Jocelyn kept at it and finished the castle and she did a great job with the rocky sand.
Jason swam around using a small raft, participated in a large scale water war, almost built a sand castle, threw water onto Jeff and tried to swim out to the plank with the water slide.
The best thing about being here with the Hemminger’s, besides staying up late playing games, is watching how patient and entertaining they are with my kids. It’s fun to watch because I use to babysit THEM and now here they are running around with David, giving Laurelyn raspberries on her tummy, braiding Jocelyn’s hair or throwing a ball around with Jason.
Jason is my water boy but the problem with having a kid in the lake all the time is the sand that comes with the lake. I’m not a fan of sand. It gets into every crevice, every shoe, and every bathing suit. Knowing that I don’t like feet Jason decided to combine my two leat favorite things into one bout of teasing.
Wayne, aka Father Hemminger, is a handy man who’s been working on odd jobs around the house. He’s building another room, putting a couple windows in, adding a new microwave above the stove and a couple other things that I don’t recognize. Jason has been having a good time asking questions about how to do things and Wayne saw a good opportunity to teach Jason about building. Jason has helped build some walls, put in a door and he even installed the door knob all by himself! If Jason does any more household projects I’ll try to get photographic evidence. In the meantime, we’re going eat chocolate, strawberry, banana crepes for breakfast and run around outside before we head back to the lake.
I love vacation!
