Hook, line and cupcake

I like having a good time. I like meeting new people. I like discovering what people like, where they come from and I like to learn their little quirks.
I like people’s quirks.
It makes friendship more fun when it’s not so easy that you don’t have to think about it. I decided I needed to meet the moms of my neighborhood. It was high time that I throw off the old bath robe, shirk off the pajamas and try putting some lipstick on. It wouldn’t kill me and I can only hide from them for so long. I figure it’s best to let them meet me, eat at my table and then realize that I’m the mom with the two year old who likes to run out the door and down the sidewalk in nothing but a diaper, screaming “Big trucks! Big trucks!”

I’m also the mom with the kids that like to troll the neighborhood in search of lights on. They’re almost as bad as the religious door knockers. They’re willing to stand at a door for twenty minutes if they think you have a child their age in your house. Their persistent little buggers, let me tell you.

Better for the momsto be caught up by my charm. My inescapable charisma. My angelic beauty. Then I’ll tell them I’m the crazy lady with FOUR children. All of which are at home instead of at school during the day. Yes, that crazy lady. Ah, but you can’t hate me now. You’ve eaten my cupcakes and you drank my tea.

Mwahaha!

It’s a brilliant plan!

I made invitations and the kids walked with me to hand them all out. Me, with a baby strapped to my front and three little ones following after me like baby chicks. It was a sight.

The invitations were given out and that’s when the fear set in.

What if no one comes?

Then I’ll jump back into my pajamas and throw my hair into a ponytail before I dive back into my book.

No worries.

In fact, three moms came which was more than I thought given that it’s a Thanksgiving weekend up here in Canada country. (I keep forgetting about Thanksgiving in November!)

We all made something to share and we laughed ourselves right out of the five pounds we were putting on from the iced cupcakes, the no bake cookies, the ice cream and the apple tart.

It was a great time and I think I’m going to do it again next month.

Why not?

Ha ha ha! I love your blog and your writing, and this story made me laugh out loud! I think my husband thinks it’s weird that I’m reading about one of my customer’s lives and laughing out loud. I want to come to the next cupcake party!
