First of all a big congratulations to Angi who won the Dad Day books!

YEAH!! WAHOO!!!

I’m sorry I didn’t post the winner on Thursday like I said I would but life got hectic and Angi lives close by so I took the easy route and hand delivered the books. Not quite as exciting but hey!

This post isn’t going to be very long because my computer has decided to type s-l-o-w-l-y. I can type as fast as I want to but the letters appear very slowly. You might be asking about the resident computer guru in my house and I would reply that although I do have a resident computer guru I have been asking for his talents to be elsewhere.

Oh! You dirty minds!

Chuck is working ion a couple other projects for me and one of them is to find all the coolest applictions for my new HTC Legend! Do you know what a Legend is? It’s legendary!

Isn’t it the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?!? So, the slow finger typing on my computer has been pretty easy to ignore while I’ve been playing with my new toy.

Speaking of toys, Chuck’s mom came over to celebrate all the kids’ birthdays and brought gifts for all of them. All of the kids got something they really wanted without getting too spoiled. Jason got a little bit of money towards a full fce helmet that he’s saving for. I’m opposed to him doing BMX tricks until he has a helmet that will protect him from having any more teeth damaged. Call me crazy!

Jocelyn got a pair of gold stud earrings since she recently got her ears pierced. Laurelyn got a set of ponies because she’s obsessed with horse and My Little Ponies. She carries ponies around with her all day. David got a tow truck to add to his collection of trucks. He reminds me all the time that there are still trucks that he doesn’t have like a bobcat, an excavator and a bulldozer. Picky kid, eh?

My two fingers are getting sore from finger typing but I finally updated my blog with the giveaway winner (YEAH ANGIE!) and there’s new pictures.

I think we’re due for some outdoor play in the sunshine so I can get some better pictures of the kids. I forgot to bring my camera when we went hiking last weekend. It was tragic really because we hiked a beautiful trail up to the Upper Falls of Johnson’s Canyon, saw a bear, went out for a scrumptious dinner and made a stop at the candy store. I can’t believe I don’t have pictures to share with you!

I’m packing my camera into my purse at this very moment.

Later gaters!

Years ago a woman was upset at my mom because she had so many kids and the world was suffering from over population.

At the time I remember thinking that over population seemed unlikely since I knew that the world population was so spread out and the Earth is so large that we were in no danger of running out of space for more people or places to grow food.

Recently Chuck and I have been talking about how the birth rates for some countries all over the world are not high enough to replace the people getting old which means that there are countries who are literally dying away.

There is a 3 part series about over population and it does a great job of making the facts easy to understand and the visuals help illustrate the true situation.

Instead of worrying about over population we should be busy creating, educating and supporting more life.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

There is a wikipedia entry that lists the birth rate of all the recognized countries in the world. It’s pretty wild to see it written out like this. Remember that this list is the birth rate for every one thousand people.

Ever heard of Dr. Horrible? If you have you’re probably holding your sides and uncontrollably laughing right now!

Joss Whedon, the man behind Buffy, Angel and Firefly. I wasn’t ever a watcher of Buffy or Angel but I loved Firefly. Anyway, Joss Whedon did a project with some great people called Dr. Horrible Sing a Long Blog and posted it on Youtube. It was a huge cult classic immediately and is one of my secret (not anymore) pleasures. Since I love you all so much I thought that I would pass on the hilarity and point you to the Sing a Long Blag because everyone should enjoy a good sing a lon, don’t you think?

Often I find that although my instinct is to do, say or believe one thing my habits keep me going in the other direction. One of my instincts is to believe that children, left to themselves, will amaze us at what they are capable of. I really do believe that and yet I worry sometimes about how involved I make myself with my kids’ day to day interactions and activities.

My kids don’t need me meddling and getting involved. In fact, I believe that if I let them follow their own direction they might even sail solo across the world. It sounds crazy but a 16 yr old teenager just did it and landed in Sydney last year. Her name is Jessica Watson and she has been sailing since she was 8. She told her parents that she wanted to sail around the world and they had enough faith in her to let her go. They helped get her prepared, supplied and sponsored even!

She has a blog where she wrote all along the way and you can see that here.

I find this so amazing and in a small way predictable. I know that kids can do jaw dropping stuff. In all the interviews Jessica’s mother sounds not the least bit surprised because she really did know that Jessica would pull this off.

Makes me wonder what my kids will do.
